Michelle Obama: Ugh…Can I get a Mulligan?

After hearing her colossal gaffe today that’s what I expected to hear, but she actually said her statement a second time. Apparently, she really meant it when she said to a Milwaukee, Wisconsin crowd:

“For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.”

Say what? Are you sure about that?

Michelle Obama was born January 17, 1964, which makes her 44 years old. If you gauge her adult life starting at age 21, that means she was an adult in 1985. Let’s examine some of the significant achievements directly caused by the U.S. government and U.S. citizens since 1985.
  • August 1989- Berlin wall is torn down (2 years after President Ronald Reagan calls for it to be removed)
  • 1990- Creation of the internet
  • January-February 1991- U.S. liberates Kuwait from Iraq in Operation Desert Storm
  • 1991- The United States wins the Cold War; the Soviet Union ceases to exist
  • 2001- After September 11, 2001 the U.S. forces along with the Northern Alliance overthrows the Taliban in Afghanistan.
  • December 2003- Sadaam Hussein captured by U.S. troops and handed over to Iraqi government. In 2004 Hamid Karzai was Afghanistan’s first popularity elected president.
  • December 2004- Indian Ocean Earthquake that ultimately caused an estimated 280,000 deaths. The US government pledged a total of $950 million dollars in aid for this region over this disaster. Private US citizens are estimated to have donated an additional $500 million.

Okay, the list can go on and on, but the point is that she said she was proud because “hope was making a comeback in this country.” Nevermind the brave men and women who have fought and died for this country and for freedom….she doesn’t admit to being proud about that. Earthly hope in fellow man and your government doesn’t accomplish anything.

I’ll leave you with the words of a man that I disagree with on some very substantive issues, but I think he has a point with this one.

Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: “Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torments of man.”
